Renowned volleyball referee Edward 'Wa-tailor' Gitau passed on after a road accident
Kenyan Volleyball was on Thursday, 4 August thrown into mourning following the untimely demise of former player and renowned referee Edward 'Wa-tailor' Gitau.
The referee was involved in a road accident on Bunyala Roundabout on 29 July as he headed home after officiating at the national league playoff matches at Nyayo Indoor Arena.

Who suffered serious head injuries and was immediately admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Nairobi West Hospital from where he has unfortunately rested eternally.

He suffered serious head injuries and was immediately admitted at the Nairobi West Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Gitau was hit by a motorcycle. He had no other physical injuries other than on his head resulting from the impact. The matter was reported to Industrial Area Polhce Station and investigations are in progress.
The referee underwent a brain surgery on Saturday 30 July at the same hospital and immediately put on a life-support machine. He passed away on Thursday while still undoing treatment.

KVF president Waithaka Kioni, while making the official announcement of Gitau's demise described him as a friend as he went on to thank those who had stood with the family so far.
"Thank you to all those who have so far offered financial and moral support to the family. Let's pray for the family and continue to provide all necessary support as they endure the pain and agony of Wa-tailor's sudden departure from our midst. May God almighty grant Wa-tailor's soul eternal peace," Kioni wrote.
First vice president Charles Nyaberi wrote "My sincere condolences to Wa-Tailor's Family, workmates and Friends. Kenyan Volleyball has lost a dedicated and passionate player, referee and mentor of many. May his soul rest in eternal peace."
